This piece I painted just for my own pleasure. There are lots of words and messages worked into it. Some I intend for the viewer to see, some not. I'm not sure if this piece will ever be finished... I will change, add and do whatever to it, whenever I feel the need.... I will rely on the group to stop me before I ruin it :)

I plan on attending the opening reception.

This show required flowers somewhere in your piece.

I wasn't going to bother with the show this year, but

fellow painter, Kim, talked me into it. I'm glad you did

Kim, thanks ! I really do work better under pressure !

The one I submitted is a little different for me.... but

I really enjoyed working on it. I originally didn't intend

on a blue flower... but it just happened..... so I called it "Blue".

I Only Wish We Had This Much Snow....

This was the image I did for my christmas card this year... I only wish we had this much snow this winter! With all the sun we've had it makes me want to put this image away and make room for the flowers... and my creative block continues......

Art Auction A Huge Success

An evening of art and wine abuzz with conversation all in support of the kids in our community that are battling cancer. Once again the community of Metchosin organized a very successful event with outstanding support from neighbours, friends and family. I was so sorry to have missed the event, but I have heard nothing but rave reviews about how fantastic the show was.

So once again thank you Metchosin!

Above ( bottom ) is the painting I donated to the auction. The scene is overlooking Taylor Beach where Mister and I frequently take our walks. I had great results with the sky using mostly filbert brushes with lots of phtalo turquoise ( my fav ).

Above ( top ) is a painting by artist Kim Saunders and donated to the cause. It was a show stopper and people were outbidding each other all night. In the end it brought in a wad of cash. Thank you Kim !

Above ( center ) a handmade necklace and pendant created and donated by artist Christine Richter, artist and craft guru. Thank you Christine !!

Also, artists Karen Pike ( my mom ) and Avril Goodall each donated a piece of artwork which added to the show and all helped to make it a huge success !

Many other local artists which are way too many to list, showed their support by donating some of their great work. It all made for a great show with loads of variety. A great big thank you to you too !

The Little Canvas that Could

I've had a canvas that has been kicking around my studio for years. I tried several different paintings on it - all of which were a disaster. As a last resort ( before I shreaded the canvas and used it as scrap ) I began doodling on it .... and then boom - the coolest little pear evolved. There is likely a quarter inch thick of paint on it which all helps give it great texture. The painting was donated to the benefit dance silent auction, which was held in support of three families in Metchosin that have a child with cancer, sadly I am one. I never gave up on that little canvas, it was a fighter and pulled through, just like Jaimey will.

The response from the community of Metchosin was so overwhelming for the benefit dance and silent auction held Oct 30^th, that we are to hosting a further silent auction with wine and cheese to display all the fabulous art pieces that have been donated to help three Metchosin families who have children with cancer. Please join us in celebrating many fantastic local artists while supporting the families.

A year in the making.... I almost had to reno my studio to fit the piece inside.... and its a good thing I drive a full size SUV to transport it ! Layer upon layer, it was a real challenge painting at this size. I had to learn to paint standing further back and with larger brushes. I don't know how I'll ever get back to painting something that fits on my easel ! The vibrant use of colour and the texture is what makes this piece one of my favourties.... I'm also quite fond of the subject. The "Kristini" stands 6 feet tall and was a commission piece.

Lacing up a pair of boxing gloves and beating on heavy bags was a way to process my anger when my daughter Jaimey was diagnosed with leukemia in April 2005, then age 5. Painting was another outlet I used to deal with the feelings that came with parenting a child with cancer.

Jaimey heroically battled the leukemia and had been living in remission until very recently, just shy of the four-year mark. Now this vivacious little girl who loves life, sports and animals, is again in a fight for a healthy life.

Colwood Mayor David Saunders has purchased "Beat It” and is offering it in a silent auction appeal in support of this weekend’s Relay for Life to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. The the 16X20” acrylic on canvas painting is valued at $550, and all proceeds will go to the Relay for Life, earmarked for children’s leukemia and breast cancer research.

I seem to have the most fun with busy table tops and martini glasses.

During our painting weekend everyone was busy painting the beautiful

scenery, but I was more intrigued by the spread of food we had.

Cadmium Red Light seems to really makes these paintings pop, and

where there is cad red light there has to be phthalo turquoise.

Every year or so, my Tuesday night painting group likes to plan a weekend away to paint. We indulge in food and beverage and lots of laughs. This year we stayed on the beach past Sooke, BC.... next year... the south of France???

The goal is to complete a collaborative painting which we like to present to the property owner as a thank you for sharing their vacation home with us. We sign the painting with a name derived from the first initial of each participant..... this year.... KACKKLHN
